The rain gauge measures rainfall using a funnel (50 cm2 orifice) that directs water downwards into a self-draining POM bucket held in place by a hard ferrite magnet. The magnet always exerts such tension that the measuring spoon empties in one quick motion (less than 300ms) and then returns to its normal position, ready to collect precipitation again. This means that the counterweight always remains the same as with other conventional two-bucket rain gauges. The rain gauge is made of molded thermoplastic, also known as ASA, which has a high resistance to external weather conditions. ASA is extremely resistant to solar UV radiation, frost-resistant and heat-resistant, withstands all climatic conditions.
